What time does the race Start and where is the Start?
The official Gun Time Race Start will be at 6:40AM for both the half and the full marathon. There are two course check points that we ask participants to be able to meet. Mile 10 for the half marathon averaging 15:00/mile and Mile 18.5 for the full marathon 13:45 pace (across military cutoff)
Course Check points
Half Marathon – need to be by mile 10 in 2:30:00 which will be at 9:10AM (15:00 pace)
Marathon – need to be by mile 18.5 in 4:20:00 which will be at 11:0am (13:45 pace)
Is this race a Qualifier for the Boston Marathon and is the race USATF Sanctioned?
Both the Half and Full Marathon are both sanctioned events.
What if it is cold at the start and I need to strip layers of clothing?
All clothing at the start will be put in a separate transportation van. You can either find it at the finish line area, or allow it to be donated to the GOOD SHEPARD Charity.
How can I be sure I get all of the race updates such as course information, logistics, and price increases?
Please sign up for our secure private mailing list. Having updated emails is important. We will only send you information that pertains to the Wrightsville Beach Marathon. Also, be sure you check your SPAM folder and promotions folder in case our emails lands in either of those filtered folders.
What are the cutoff times?
15:00 pace for the HALF or 3:15:00
13:45 pace for the FULL 6:20:00 (you must be past mile 18.5 by 11:00am which is a 13:45 pace and finished by 6:20:00)
If you do not reach the cutoff check points – you will be pulled from the course.
Half Marathon – need to be by mile 10 in 2:30:00 which will be at 9:10AM (15:00 pace)
Marathon – need to be by mile 18.5 in 4:20:00 which will be at 11:00am (13:40 pace)
What is the race giveaway swag?
NHRMC WB Marathon gives everyone 13.1 or 26.2 Lounge Pajama Pants. These are high quality soft pants that you will always use and love. You can purchase a t-shirt for $15.00 through your registration as well!
What timing system will be used?
My Laps BIB Chip timing will be provided
Will there be Live Tracking for my athlete?
Yes, we will have a phone app called RACEJOY, if you run with your cell phone, you can be tracked. See the runner tracking page for more information.
How many participants are allowed in each event?
NHRMC Wrightsville Beach Marathon: 1200
NHRMC Wrightsville Beach Half Marathon: 2400
If I cannot make Packet Pickup, how can I get my bib number and t-shirt?
Please make arrangements with friends or family to pick up your packet. Anyone can pick it up for you, the race will not be responsible for missed packet pickups. You can also reserve to have your bib at the start by filling out this form
How does the 26.2 mile relay work? Do relay teams get medals and swag?
The relay has 4 legs of different distances. Please read the relay page here: All relay teams get a pair of 26.2 lounge pants and a medal for each team member. Relay team awards are in 3 categories, ALL FEMALE, ALL MALE and COED.
Can I get a refund, transfers or deferment?
There are refunds for this event if you purchase the race insurance policy when you register for the race.
Otherwise There are NO OTHER REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED FOR THIS EVENT.
We allow transfers from person to person or race to race. You should see a TRANSFER option when you are logged into your www.runsignup.com account. When you transfer your registration, the person receiving the transfer will pay and then you will receive an immediate full refund. Gifting a registration is also available. This must be completed by FEBRUARY 24th, 2017.
Because the race sells out most years, we do not allow deferment but we do offer a discount into the following years race if you could not run.
Can I register by Mail?
In our effort to be green, the Wrightsville Beach Marathon only has internet registration. It is simple, fast and secure.
What if it rains?
The Wrightsville Beach Marathon is RAIN or SHINE. Again, there will be no refunds.

Can I Transfer from the Marathon to the Half Marathon or vice-versa
February 18th, 2017 is the last day to transfer from one event to the other. If you are moving from the Full Marathon into the Half Marathon there are no refund of fees. YOU MAY NOT TRANSFER FROM THE FULL TO THE HALF IF THE HALF IS SOLD OUT. There is a transfer feee of $10 regardless of event transfer (Half to Full or Full to Half).
If you are transfering into the Full from the Half you will need to pay the $10 transfer fee PLUS the $20 difference in price for a total transfer cost of $30.
If you are transfering into the Half from Full you will only pay the $10 transfer fee. Again, no refunds will be given in this situation.
What food and drinks will be on the course
The course will have 9 aid stations about every 1 t 2 miles.
WATER, GATORADE and CLIFF GELS will be served at Aid Stations along with Coke, Twizzlers and Oranges.
Will there be bathrooms on the course
We will have TWO-FOUR Rent-A-Jon at each aid station on the course about every 1-2 miles.
Is there a race-day packet pick-up
All packets must be picked up Friday at the expo. See EXPO page for details.
Friends or family can pick up your packet from 11:00am to 9pm on Friday March 16th

Can I wear headphones
Please note it is unsafe to wear headphones while running. Event organizers will not restrict headphone use and leave it up to the athlete on his/ her ability to follow direction while wearing headphone devices. If you do choose to wear headphones please keep the volume level down so you are able to hear and follow the direction of course volunteers. We have a unique course where you MUST listen to volunteers, if you cannot hear a volunteer you have no excuses if you get led off course.
Are there awards?
Yes. Top 3 male and female finishers in the marathon as well as top 3 masters male and masters female will receive a cash prize.

Medals will be given to all half and full marathon finishers along with marathon relay finishers.
Age group awards will also be given.
The biggest company/team will receive exclusive discount pricing for the 2019 race along with a team party!
What is the course elevation?
The highest course elevation is no more than 35 ft.
Can some one else run in my place
You can transfer to another runner before February 18th. After February 18th, you can no longer transfer and someone CAN NOT run in your place.
Do Shuttles Cost Money?
If you are taking a shuttle to the start between 4:45am and 6:30am the cost is $3.00. Reserve your shuttle spot here.
The shuttles running from 9am to 1pm are FREE and do not cost if you plan to park at the start line.

Where should I park?
There are 3 options for parking and transportation – Parking Maps Here
- You can park on UNCW campus in the designated parking lots and buy a shuttle pass for $3 to get a ride to the start
- You can park at the start and use our free shuttles after the race from 9am to 1pm to get a ride back to the start
- You can have someone drop you off at the start before 6:35am
Are there finisher medals?
Yes all finishers in the half and full marathon and Marathon Relay will receive a medal.
5K finishers or 1 mile fun run finishers will NOT receive medals.
What will the weather be like in Wrightsville Beach during March?
Average minimum temperature is 45 degrees.
Average maximum temperatire is 67 degrees.
Record High is 88 degrees.
Record Low is 27 degrees.
Can I register on race day?
NO, all registrations must be done before 3-17-2018.
Are walkers allowed in the race?
You must meet the requirements of the cutoff times.
15:00 per mile pace – this is a walk/run method
13:45/mile pace for the marathon
Will there be beer and food at the finish line?
Yes, all of the beer and food will be inside the Burney Center where the expo was. Beer will be restricted to a certain area because we are on a college campus, but it will be free and available. Food for the athletes will be free and food trucks and the student union will be open for purchase. There is coffee on campus as well after 9am.
Are baby joggers, strollers or pets allowed during the race?
No. This is to ensure runner safety and comply with liability insurance policies.
