How can I be sure I get all of the race updates, course information, logistics, and price increases?
This is very important and if you are racing with us we encourage you to please be sure you are on our email list. If you are not receiving race emails, please email the director with a valid email. Also follow us on social media. We post all updates on Facebook and Instagram.
Is there race day packet pickup?
NO! All packets must be picked up at the expo from 11am to 8pm Friday.
Make arrangements to have someone pick up your packet or have your bib mailed for $15.00. If you have your bib mailed, we will have your t-shirt after the event for you to pick up
How does the marathon relay work?
You can have 2,3 or 4 runners on a team with a good mix of distances to choose from. 1 person can run multiple legs. There are 2 exchanges on course. You are responsible for being at those exchanges on time. Relays have 3 divisions: overall male, overall female, and overall mixed. The relay is a great way to participate without having to complete a full or half-marathon. All relay runners get 26.2 pants and a medal. Visit the relay page for more details.
Can someone else run in my place?
NO! You can transfer to another runner by February 1st. It is against USATF rules and the race rules to run for another runner.
Are walkers, baby joggers, or pets allowed in the race?
You can walk as long as you meet course cutoff times. This typically involves a walk/run method.

Where should my family watch?
We recommend that if family and friends are healthy, they should park in a central area and jog or bike around the course. The start is not the best area to see the runners. Many people park at St. Marks Catholic Church, The Landfall Shopping Center, or Harris Teeter on Eastwood Rd. Make sure if you want to see your runner finish, you make time to get to the finish line since many of the roads are blocked from the race. Below are maps for spectator view and a map that shows the best routes to take to get from the course to the finish line.
What time do the races start?
5K: Friday 6:20pm
1-mile: Friday 6:25pm
Half-Marathon, Marathon, and Marathon Relay: Saturday 6:40am
What kind of swag is given to the runners?
All marathon, half marathon and relay runners will receive a 10th anniversary t-shirt manufactured by Without Limits and a finisher medal. These are very soft athletic fit t-shirts. 5K runners and 1-mile runners receive a t-shirt. The t-shirt cutoff is February 1st.
Can I get a refund, transfer or defer?
We allow transfers to another runner or a deferment to the next year by February 1st. There is a small fee to transfer or defer. Click here to complete a transfer or deferment.
The ONLY way to get a full refund is if you purchase the insurance during registration checkout.
Can I wear headphones?
Please note it is unsafe to wear headphones while running. Event organizers will not restrict headphone use and leave it up to the athlete on his/ her ability to follow direction while wearing headphone devices. If you do choose to wear headphones please keep the volume level down so you are able to hear and follow the direction of course volunteers. We have a unique course where you MUST listen to volunteers. If you cannot hear a volunteer you have no excuses if you get led off-course.
I need a shuttle to the start, how do I get one?
To reserve a spot on our shuttles from UNCW to the start, you need to purchase a shuttle pass for $5.00. The cutoff to pre-order a pass is February 1st. If you pre-order, your shuttle pass will be on your custom bib. After Feb. 1st shuttle passes will be first come first served at the expo where you will receive a wrist band.
There are FREE shuttles after the event from 9am to 1pm. Due to traffic in and around the course, these may take some time to get to get back to the beach.
Is there a bag drop at the start?
We offer a complimentary bag drop at the start area. You can use the bag you receive at the expo for your gear bag. Our bag drop is to simply allow you to dress warm at the start and throw your clothes in our truck. The bags will be back at UNCW when you finish. There should be no keys, wallets, phones or anything important in this bag. We advise against putting anything of any value. We will take the clothing back to UNCW and hold it near the shuttle pickup location, adjacent to the UNCW Burney Center until 1:00pm. After 1pm, everything that is not picked up will be donated.
What are the course cutoffs?
(must be past mile 10 by 9:20am)
(must be past mile 19 by 11:00am)
What kind of food will I receive at the finish line?
PUBLIX will be providing a finisher food bag for every athlete that crosses the line. There will be Chic-Fil-a, Subway, and the University Market open on race day for food purchase. We will have additional fluids inside the Burney Center along with FREE BEER.
What kind of awards are given?
Top 3 male and female finishers as well as top 3 masters male and masters female will receive a cash prize in both the half and full marathon.

Masters (Over 40 years of age)

Medals will be given to all half and full marathon finishers along with marathon relay finishers.
Age group awards will also be given.
The biggest company/team will receive exclusive discount pricing for the 2020 race
Where is the best place to park?
There are 3 options for parking and transportation:
- You can park on UNCW’s campus in the designated parking lots and buy a shuttle pass for $5 to get a ride to the start.
- You can park at the start and use our free shuttles after the race from 9am to 1pm to get a ride back to the start.
- You can have someone drop you off at the start before 6:35am.
Can I transfer to from the full to half, or half to full?
February 1st is the final day to transfer to another race or to another runner. You can transfer to another race and pay the difference in price if the price is higher. There is a $10 transfer fee. You can also transfer at the expo, there is a $20 transfer fee at the expo
Is the Marathon a Boston qualifier?
ABSOLUTELY! The Wrightsville Beach Marathon is one of the top races in the country to qualify for Boston. We try to put together a fast field so there is a better chance to qualify and get a fast time. Our course is flat and has enough variation to keep you engaged. After the race, we turn in all of our results to the BAA. Both half and full marathon are certified courses and sanctioned by USATF.
If I cannot make packet pickup, what are my options for getting my number?
There are 2 options.
#1 We can mail your bib for $15.00 (cutoff Feb 1st and swag can be picked up after the race)
#2 You can have a friend pickup your packet.

What food and drinks will be on course?
There will be 9 aid stations. Go to the ALL MAPS page to see them.
Each station will have 2-4 bathrooms.
Water, Gatorade, and Cliff Gels will be served.
Coke, Twizzlers and Oranges will be served for marathoners only.
What is the course elevation?
Max elevation is 35ft above sea level.
Can I register at the expo?
YES! As long as the event is not sold out, we take onsite registration. We do NOT take registration on race morning.
Is there live tracking?
We have live tracking options using the phone app RACEJOY. This costs nothing to the racer but you must run with your cell phone for it to work. If you do not want to do this, the race will post live results every 15 to 30 minutes on our website. We do not have live bib tracking throughout the course.
